Charlaine Harris is SO BOSS; she is a queen of badassery! If you haven’t read Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse book series, or watched HBO’s True Blood (staring movie queen Anna Paquin, the dreamy Alexander Skarsgard, and the adorable Ryan Kwanten) you should rectify that immediately. Sookie Stackhouse Series aside, Harris’ book Three Bedrooms One Corpse is the one I am supes excited about right now. I just finished reading it, and if I didn’t have hoarder status stacks of books to read, I would immediately re-read it! This book follows the lively Aurora Teagarden as she navigates her way through a life lull (almost mid-mid life crisis) in which she contemplates what the hell to do with herself when love, and murder, hit her dumbstruck. What unfolds is a fun, witty, fast-paced who-done-it which will leave you, like Martin Bartell, wanting more of Miss Teagarden. A classic murder mystery spiked with the inner-musings of a very realistic heroine, Three Bedrooms One Corpse is perfect for any murder-mystery fan above the appropriate age of fourteen (unless you trust a kid younger than this, then it’s perfect too). What I admired most about this character is that, unlike Nancy Drew, Aurora Teagarden is very much a down home girl who stresses about relatable things (like unruly hair, and being self-conscious about looking frumpy even in a pretty dress) which makes her immediately endearing. Not to say Nancy Drew isn’t a queen in her own right, I just can’t relate to her hopping in her perfect car, with her perfect friend, her perfect boyfriend, backed with her perfect bank account. Aurora Teagarden has none of these, and it’s amazing! Despite her life circumstances though, she is a shrewd observer of what is going on around her, and she is not too afraid to take the necessary action to properly resolve…well solve, actually, problems like the murder of two real estate agents. I can’t recommend this book enough. So get reqless, go read it, and let me know what you think!
